Ayurveda and Panchakarma by Joshi, Sunil V. V.

Ayurveda and Panchakarma is the first book I ever read on Ayurveda. I discovered this book in a converted garage/book store in the heart of Gokulam, Mysore in India. It is an excellent introduction to Ayurveda. It is also the book my Yoga teacher recommended when I began teacher training with him - proving I am not the only one who thinks this is a great place to start with Ayurveda and that this book is well worth reading.

The book is a book of two halves. The first half of the book is dedicated to the principles which define Ayurveda as a science of life and health. It offers information from the ground up, starting with the roots of Ayurveda and expanding all knowledge from there. The second half dedicated to Panchakarma delves more deeply into the Ayurvedic understanding and how to treat it. This aspect of the book helps to put into perspective just how simple and useful Ayurveda can be in treating imbalances or disease.
